Public / Shared Folders

Public folders and shared (user account) folders can be setup to enable multiple accounts to share messages using IMAP.

Access control lists (ACLs) may be created for each folder to specify the folder permissions of each account which accesses a public or shared folder.

Public Folders

The public mail account ('imappublic') contains public folders for a domain. There is only one public mail account per domain; this account may contain one or more public folders.

Public folders are accessed through an IMAP email client program using the prefix '#PUBLIC'. Proper ACL settings must exist in order for '#PUBLIC' to be available to an account.

Shared Folders

Each user account may specify folders that can be shared with other accounts.

Shared folders are accessed through an IMAP email client program using the prefix '#USER'. Proper ACL settings must exist in order for '#USER' to be available to an account.
