Windows Services

The ISMail servers can be installed either as application programs or as Windows Services.

Either the ISMail configuration menu Services tab or the Windows Service Control Manager can be used to specify how the Service(s) should be started (automatically or manually).

Installing a Server to Windows Services:

To install one or more servers as Windows Services, use the Services tab of the ISMail Configuration program menu.

To install a server as a Windows Service:

  1. Right-click the ISMail Manager program icon located in the lower-right portion of the screen (notification area of system tray), and select 'Open'.
  2. Select the 'Services' tab.
  3. Click the 'Install' button for the server (SMTP, POP3, IMAP4, Webmail, LDAP).
  4. If you want the Service to be run automatically each time the system starts up, click the 'Automatic' button.

Uninstalling a Server from Windows Services:

To uninstall one or more servers from Windows Services, use the Services menu of the ISMail Configuration program.

To uninstall a mail server from Windows Services:

  1. Right-click the ISMail Manager program icon located in the lower-right portion of the screen (notification area of system tray), and select 'Open'.
  2. Select the 'Services' tab.
  3. Click the 'Uninstall' button for the Service to be removed (SMTP, POP3, IMAP4, Webmail, LDAP).

Note: the POP3 and IMAP4 servers may take up to 10 seconds to uninstall.

Running a Server from Windows Services:

A server installed as a Windows Service can either be run directly from the:

  • ISMail configuration pop-up menu (see ISMail Servers)
  • Windows Service Control Manager (Start->Settings->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services).
