DNS Service: Domains

The DNS configuration applies to domains setup under DNS Service. When a DNS Service account is used to setup a domain, and the configuration is saved, the domain will be listed here.

Each domain has the following DNS Service settings, all of which (except the domain name) may be edited:

  • DNS Domain: domain name using DNS Services
  • Web Server Domain: checked, if the domain appears in the Web Server configuration. Each DNS Domain should be added to the Web Server in order to respond to web requests, define the directory containing website content, etc..
  • Heartbeat: period of time after which the DNS will be updated with the current IP address. The current IP address is either the IP of the server machine, or is defined by the External IP or Static IP fields. Heartbeat should be set if a router is in use.
  • External IP: if set, the DNS service will detect and use the external IP address of the server. External IP should be set if a router is in use. Note that External IP should not be set if Static IP is used.
  • Static IP: if set to a specific IP address, only that IP address will be used. Static IP should not be used if the IP is dynamic (i.e. if the IP address ever changes). Note that External IP should generally not be set if Static IP is used.
