MiniPortal Brings Web Hosting to Desktop PCs

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- November 19th, 2001 -- InstantServers has released a new version of MiniPortal (v1.1.5), web hosting software for Windows 95/98/NT/2000 that enables anyone with an 'always-on' Internet connection to host web sites.
MiniPortal is a fully-featured, but consumer friendly alternative to web hosting services. With the PC hard drive, MiniPortal has virtually unlimited storage for web site content. New sites are setup by following the menus with a web browser; there are no configuration files to edit. A browser is also used to remotely configure and control the system. Web sites are published simply by copying files into the server's directory, by publishing from web site creation applications, or by transfering files from any computer with FTP.
MiniPortal can handle multiple web sites, a handy feature for previewing new site content, giving each member of a family his or her own web space, or hosting the sites of friends or colleagues. Password protection can be used to restrict access to individual sites or directories within sites.
MiniPortal uses the industry-leading Apache web server (http://apache.org) to manage web site content and produces graphical reports showing site activity. An integrated FTP server handles publishing and file archives. CGI scripts are supported with the built-in Perl script interpreter.
The company also offers a dynamic DNS service for handling the changing Internet addresses used on certain low cost Internet connections.
MiniPortal is priced at $49 and is available from InstantServers' web site (http://instantservers.com). A 30-day trial version that includes a free subdomain name is also available on the web site.
